The Lion King is a notoriously challenging 1994 action platformer developed by Virgin Interactive for the SNES. Featuring fluid character animations drawn by actual Disney artists, the game follows Simba’s journey from a vulnerable cub to a powerful adult lion, blending precision platforming with stunning visuals.
How to play
Guide Simba through the African savanna using the arrow keys to move, duck, and crawl. Press Z and X to jump and roar. As a cub, Simba’s main attack is pouncing on enemies from above, and his roar can flip certain bugs or stun weaker foes. When he grows into an adult later in the game, he gains access to powerful swipe attacks (A and S) for more direct combat.
Tips
- In the “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” level, memorizing the timing for the monkey puzzle and the jumps during the ostrich ride is essential to surviving its steep difficulty spike.
- Simba’s roar meter needs time to recharge after use; save your roar to stun problematic enemies like hyenas or to flip the spiked bugs so they can be safely pounced on.
