Developed by Capcom and released in 1985, Commando is an influential top-down action shooter that brought arcade-style intensity to the Atari 7800. Players control Super Joe as he is dropped behind enemy lines, armed with a submachine gun and limited grenades, to battle through waves of soldiers and rescue captured allies.
How to Play
Your objective is to push forward through the vertically scrolling stages, eliminating enemy forces and reaching the gate at the end of each area. Use the arrow keys to move in eight directions. Press Z to fire your main weapon and X to throw a grenade, which is essential for clearing enemies behind cover. If using a gamepad, use the D-pad to move, button 2 to fire, and button 1 for grenades. Press Enter to pause.
Tips
- Keep moving constantly. The screen fills with enemy fire quickly, and staying stationary makes you a vulnerable target.
- Conserve your grenades for clustered enemies and fortified bunkers that cannot be hit with regular fire.
- Focus on diagonal movement to thread between bullets, as enemy projectiles often travel in straight lines.
