Chack’n Pop is a 1983 Taito action game, originally an arcade release and ported to the NES, in which a small creature named Chack’n navigates single-screen underground rooms collecting hearts while blob-like enemies called Monstahs hatch from eggs in the walls. The goal on every screen is to collect all the hearts before the creatures that hatch around you make that impossible. It belongs to the same Taito tradition of compact single-screen action games that would later produce Bubble Bobble.
How to play
Control Chack’n with the arrow keys. The B button (Z on keyboard) and A button (X) are your tools against the Monstahs. Clear every heart on the screen to advance to the next room. Enemies hatch continuously from eggs scattered around each level, so dealing with egg clusters early keeps the pressure manageable. Enter starts the game; Shift is Select.
