Street Racer was among the nine games bundled with the Atari 2600 at its September 1977 launch. Developed by Atari, Inc., it is a top-down driving game with several built-in variations — you steer a car through oncoming traffic while a score climbs, racing the clock or a second player. Use the SELECT switch to try a few variations; the difficulty and ruleset shift enough that it is worth exploring before settling on one.
How to play
F11 = SELECT (cycles game variations) · F12 = RESET · Alt+L toggles paddle and joystick input · F2 switches colour and black-and-white mode.
| Player 1 | Player 2 | |
|---|---|---|
| Steer | ↑ ↓ ← → | T G F H |
| Fire / trigger | Spacebar | A |
| Turbo | Del | . |
| Pause | Alt+P | |
Tips
- Cycle through a few SELECT (F11) variations before committing — the challenge and rules shift noticeably between game numbers.
- Steer early. Oncoming cars close fast in the top-down view; by the time one is directly ahead, there is little room left to dodge.
