Mortal Kombat Trilogy is a 1996 fighting game published by Midway Games for the Nintendo 64. It is the most complete release of the original MK era — bringing together nearly every fighter from the first three arcade games, adding the Aggressor meter, and keeping all the finishing-move varieties: Fatalities, Brutalities, Animalities, Babalities, and Mercies.
How to play
Choose a fighter and battle through a ladder of opponents to reach the final bosses, Motaro and Shao Kahn. Every match uses five core actions: High Punch, Low Punch, High Kick, Low Kick, and Block. Special moves are triggered with directional inputs combined with attack buttons.
Default keyboard controls for the N64 version:
- Arrow keys — move and jump
- Z — A button (High Punch)
- X — B button (Low Punch)
- K — C-Down (High Kick)
- J — C-Left (Low Kick)
- S — R shoulder (Block)
- Shift — Z trigger (Run)
- Enter — Start
Tips
- The Aggressor bar fills gradually during each round. When yours maxes out, your fighter gets a short burst of extra speed and damage — the ideal moment to land your hardest combos before it fades.
- Every character shares two universal tools: hold Back and press Low Kick for a sweep, and tap Down and High Punch for an uppercut. These work before you learn a single character-specific special move.
- The Run button (Shift) lets you close distance quickly, but a full-screen run is easy to punish — tap it to step forward, then immediately commit to a block or an attack.
